mozaTravels — DIDACTA 2017

20 มีนาคม 2017 Olga Pushkina

This year’s DIDACTA Stuttgart was only the second time Mozaik Educaton exhibited at this expo, but we already felt at home. DIDACTA is somewhat different from other annual educational fairs because it is hosted in rotation by three German cities: Cologne, Stuttgart and Hannover, which makes it even more exciting to attend.

We are very proud of our own Eszter Hosszu for presenting at our partner RICOH Germany’s stand. Not only did she give an amazing presentation on Darwin’s theory of evolution but also showcased our redesigned and improved second generation classwork function. Using RICOH devices, Eszter was sending exercises to the “students”. Those pretend students enthusiastically solved the exercises and sent them back to the teacher device.

We are already looking forward to next year’s DIDACTA Fair that will take place in Hannover. In the meantime, if you love mozaBook and trade shows as much as we do, please check out our exhibition timetable and drop us a line at office@mozaweb.com to arrange a meeting at one of them.

Listening Comprehension

20 มีนาคม 2017 Földvári Erika

Learning is most effective when information reaches students through as many different channels as possible. Learning styles and the ways information is received may vary. Therefore, teachers must prepare carefully to be able to elaborate on different topics. mozaBook makes explaining the material significantly easier and decreases the amount of time spent on preparation.

In mozaBook, the auditory and visual learning tools are merged perfectly with each other. The teacher can complement these by creating additional exercises and using the Test Editor. This way, all students with different learning styles will be part of an effective and fun learning process. In particular, it is outstanding that the materials are available to students for learning at home as well.

In school, a considerable amount of time is spent with students listening to the teachers’ presentations, which is the more conventional way of delivering information in the classroom. However, in order for students to be able to recognize the essence of the text and  memorize key information, they need to learn the correct technique to do so. mozaBook’s built-in content, such as 3D animations and videos provide superior help with this.

A possible way to present the Colosseum in Rome
mozaBook tools used: miniMap, 3D animation, Test Editor

I. Preparation
1. Revision of students’ previously acquired knowledge, discussion of possible personal experiences.
Guiding question: Where is the Colosseum located? Mark Rome on the map.

2. Posing questions expected to be answered with the help of the text.

II. Getting to know the text
1. Listening to the text along with the animation.
Did students receive sufficient answers to their questions? If not, let’s find them together (possibly by searching the Internet).

III. Elaborating on the information found in the text
1. Discussion of the acquired information based on the narration.
2. Listening to the text again and finding the answers to the following questions:

3. Exercises
a) Gap filling

b) Introducing new concepts

c) Data search, focal points

4. Collecting keywords. Drafting an outline of the text.

IV. Systematization, reproduction
1. Pair work: asking questions in connection with the text
2. Pair work: recounting the main points of the text in pairs

mozaBook training for Tallinna Reaalkool

6 มีนาคม 2017 Olga Pushkina

This January, Mozaik Education was delighted to host a group of teachers from Tallinna Reaalkool. Tallinna Reaalkool, or Tallinn Secondary School of Science as it is called in English, is one of the oldest schools in Tallinn. It was established in 1881 and is located very close to the old city of Tallinn. The principal of the School, Mrs. Ene Saar, is striving to introduce new teaching methods within the school and aims to provide her teachers with opportunities to have access to the best educational events, products and ideas from all over the world. We first met Mrs. Saar at the BETT show in 2016 and are very delighted that our relations with Tallinna Reaalkool came such a long way. We hope to see mozaBook used in many Estonian schools  in the near future and are sure that Tallinna Reaalkool will be our partner in this journey.

Seven teachers from Tallinna Reaalkool and a Professor of Geography from the University of Tartu were trained in mozaBook wizardry for 5 full days and, we must admit, the results were impressive! All the trainees took a lot of interest in the material, worked hard and learned a lot during the training. It is always very interesting and fulfilling to work with practicing teachers: they ask the best questions, create the most interesting exercises, and give the best feedback. This time was no exception; among other things, teachers from Tallinna Reaalkool developed a complex Math presentation integrated with PDF workbooks and a colourful animated presentation for primary school pupils.

However, it was not all work for our guests, they also managed to fit in some fun activities. After long days at our training centre, they usually enthusiastically headed towards one of the city sights. They visited  the Ferenc Móra Museum, Anna Bath, Szegedi Dom and the Synagogue, which is the 4th largest in the world. It was nice to see people take so much interest in Mozaik’s home town and happily pace its streets in the cold Winter weather.

If you would like to have an experience similar to that of Tallinna Reaalkool’s teachers, please email us at office@mozaweb.com.

The mozaTeam @ BETT 2017

13 กุมภาพันธ์ 2017 Gábriel Zsófia

New year, new BETT show. This is one of Mozaik’s most important credos. As a long-time attendee, London is always calling us in January to take part in one of the largest educational expos in the world. How could we possibly resist?! BETT provides the perfect opportunity to network, meet and catch up with partners, and present mozaBook to Ministries, publishers, and potential distributor partners as well as our most important audience: teachers.

We are proud to say educators from all over the world visited our stand this year; we met teachers from the United Arab Emirates to Finland. We exchanged business cards with representatives of Chinese, Mexican, Lithuanian, and Italian companies. The show garners so much international attention, we barely met anybody from the UK! The funniest example of this was undoubtedly when a Hungarian delegation of teachers told us how proud they were to find our products showcased all the way in London.

Thankfully, our stand was always buzzing with people and excitement, and was probably one of the busiest spots in the entire hall. We even had guided tours that had us on their radar - Mozaik’s booth was often a scheduled stop as some larger groups made their way across the exhibition’s floor. It is undeniable that the bilingual mode of our 3Ds was the star of the show. Along with our tools and games, which even made a few adults weak in the knees, our interactive content was definitely one of the unique points of BETT. However, our stand was not the only place to meet Mozaik: a few of our partners, like Samsung, were also showing mozaBook on their displays.

We are certain our participation in this year’s event will translate into further opportunities and benefits all around. By making a small change with mozaBook in one classroom, we can gradually place education where it truly belongs: the 21st century. Having said that, the BETT show continues to be the number one platform for innovators in the field, so the children of the future can become the pioneers they deserve to be.

We can hardly wait for next year’s amazing experience!

Mozaik's Guest Lecture at the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj

8 กุมภาพันธ์ 2017 Gábriel Zsófia

Last December, just before Christmas, Mozaik was invited to the beautiful, historic city of Cluj-Napoca to speak about digital education at the local Babes-Bolyai University. The reason? A few of the institution’s professors had been to the Transylvanian ICT conference earlier in the Fall where they had met some of our colleagues presenting mozaBook. After reviewing our products, they were so impressed they asked us to prepare a lecture on the relevant issues that might be viewed as causes for concern and motivate our team to move forward. Our host - Ms Magda Illyés, a wonderful psychology professor - had a course on digital education and incorporating digital content into teaching/learning last semester, so our presentation was the perfect conclusion to her class.

Although presenting to a Hungarian audience is not always easy (we usually present or give lectures in English), it was an amazing opportunity to interact with soon-to-be teachers and get their take on the challenges of education today. It is always very constructive to add a new perspective so one can examine everything from a different point of view; not to mention this was a great way for us to get valuable feedback on what we are doing.

The first half of our presentation was about the successful usage of digital content with already existing materials in the modern classroom, while the second part was more about the features of mozaBook and the benefits of using the mozaLearn system for both teachers and students. By providing a quick overview of the situation of education today, we were able to take a closer look at how educators are caught between traditional values, an old-fashioned curriculum/methodology and the digital world we - especially students - live in, along with how teachers can use various devices and technology to their advantage in the classroom.

We hope our audience enjoyed the guest lecture as much as we enjoyed our visit. It was truly an honor to be invited to talk to the next generation of teachers. We are confident that they will be able to utilize all this information soon.

If you feel like sharing your own experience or would like to request a guest lecture, please hit the comments or e-mail us to start a discussion.

‘Tis the season… to view 3Ds!

19 ธันวาคม 2016 Gábriel Zsófia

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which is why Mozaik has dressed its 3Ds accordingly. This holiday season, even our awesome educational content is feeling festive. We have winter-appropriate frost and icicles as decoration, which immediately makes you feel the need to get your fuzzy mittens out. You might even spot Santa Claus, and this time around, he’s giving cool gifts to all kids, whether naughty or nice.

So just wrap up in a blanket, grab some hot chocolate and get into the holiday spirit with us! Who needs Christmas movies when you have mozaWeb?

From all of us here at Mozaik Education, have an amazing Christmas and a very happy New Year!
